I grew up in the country. Our town was small enough that no one who didn’t live there would find it without a map and a finger pointing them in the right direction. It was a place where children grew up slow, the way a child should. There was a good balance between responsibilities and free time. The one thing that really set our family apart from all the other families we knew growing up was that we grew food. Not just a tomato here and a pepper there, but somewhere close to a half acre of our 5 acre lot was devoted to fruits and vegetables. We ate fresh fruits and vegetables all summer long and preserved fruits and vegetables for a good part of the winter. This created the deep love and passion I have for food and organic farming. I want to carry on this tradition (and share it) on my journey to sustainability.
